Throughout the year, these guys were continuously trending on social media for their accomplishments and every kind of celeb juice that today’s followers need.
There are some familiar faces among the most popular celebrities of 2021, but there are also some fascinating newcomers.
1. Wizzy Wizzy ..Wizkid (Musician)
Wizkid is Bestof9ja’s most popular celebrity of the year. He is unquestionably one of Africa’s top music stars.

For his role in Beyonce’s ‘Brown Skin Girl,’ the Ojuelegba singer won ‘Best Music Video’ at the 63rd Grammy Awards.
His smash single ‘Essence,’ which featured Tems and had a Justin Bieber remix, was indisputably one of the most popular songs of all time, ranking at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Unsurprisingly, the song has been nominated for a Grammy Award for ‘Best Global Music Performance’ at the upcoming Grammy Awards.
The ‘Made In Lagos: Deluxe Edition’ was also nominated for a Grammy for ‘Best Global Music Album.’
The music sensation wowed audiences at a sold-out show at London’s O2 Arena in December. Several international celebrities were onstage and as audience members during the three-day event.
2. Oluwa Burna oh – Burna Boy (Musician)
Burna Boy had an undeniably fantastic year in 2021!
At the 2021 Grammys, the African Giant finally won his long-awaited ‘Best Global Music Album’ award for Twice As Tall.
His achievement was hailed around the world as proof of how far Nigeria’s music industry has progressed.
Aside from winning one of the world’s most coveted music prizes, the music superstar wowed even his detractors with a headline set at London’s O2 Arena.
3. OBO Baddest – Davido (Musician)
Davido is still one of the most well-known and well-liked superstars in this region of the world. As is customary, the pop singer made news in 2021 for a variety of reasons.
In March, his romance with his now-ex-fiancee, Chioma Rowland, came to an end, resulting in one of the most talked-about celebrity stories of the year.
Away from the relationship drama, the music star sent social media into a frenzy in November when he shared his bank account number on Twitter asking close friends to send him money for his 29th birthday.
For the next 24 hours, that single tweet was the most popular topic on Twitter. The millionaire heir raised N200 million and donated it to charity, plus another N50 million from his personal funds.
On the music scene, his duet with Adekunle Gold in the song “High” has been dubbed “one of the industry’s biggest.”
He was voted the third most streamed musician in Nigeria by Spotify, a music streaming site.
4. Obi Cubana (Socialite and Businessman)
Obinna Iyeigbu, sometimes known as Obi Cubana, was already a well-known figure in the hospitality industry.
However, because of his flamboyant lifestyle, he began to gain a large following on social media.
While many people were still attempting to figure out who the guy was, he threw what has been dubbed “the year’s event.”
Obi Cubana first disclosed his mother’s death and burial arrangements on social media in September. The funeral was attended by the businessman’s friends and acquaintances.
It was a display of luxury and the opulent lifestyles of some of the country’s wealthiest citizens.
Several Nigerian music giants, including Davido, D’banj, Phyno, and Patoranking, played for the locals in his little village of Oba.
5. Whitemoney
Nigeria’s most popular reality TV show, Big Brother Naija, is done every year and it gives birth to a new set of celebrities. One celebrity that sure got everyone talking during its sixth season was Whitemoney.
From the moment he stepped on stage during the premiere of the show, he was on the lips of everyone who watched. Even those who weren’t into the reality TV show knew who Whitemoney was.
He had just recently given guidelines to men on how to dress like a Sugar Daddy.
6. Mr. Macaroni -Ooin, you are doing well (Instagram comedian)
Mr. Macaroni’s success was built not only on his talent as a comedy writer, but also on the immense effort he put into the #EndSARS protest in 2020.
For many young Nigerians, he became an unofficial spokesperson.
He joined numerous Nigerians in leading a protest after the Lagos State administration announced plans to reopen the Lekki Toll Gate earlier this year. During the rally, he was arrested and attacked.
Mr Macaroni’s influence and popularity escalated to the point where the governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, publicly asked him and a few celebrities to a ‘walk of peace’ to bring peace and unity after the killings at the toll gate on October 20, 2020.
7. Tiwa Savage
Tiwa Savage had a very fulfilling 2021 career-wise. She released her EP ‘Water and Garri’ in August.
The major talking point from that EP was her collaboration with American music star Brandy on the single ‘Somebody’s Son.’
Tiwa Savage had an extremely successful career in 2021. In August, she released her EP ‘Water and Garri.’ Her partnership with American music singer Brandy on the tune ‘Somebody’s Son’ was a huge talking point from that EP.
