A political pressure group, Northeast Alliance for Democratic Change has described Governor Bala Mohammed’s choice of himself over former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar as baseless, saying that any meeting to discuss their presidential aspirations is an exercise in futility.
The Zonal Chairman of the Alliance, Lawal Mukhtar Ladan while speaking with journalists in Bauchi noted that even if such fora is provided for the two presidential aspirants, Atiku Abubakar having had experiences at the presidential level of governance for eight years, will far overshadow Bala Mohammed.
The Alliance chairman said that based on antecedents, the former vice president, Atiku Abubakar is more qualified to carry the PDP flag
Ladan further advised the national leadership of the PDP to make Atiku the presidential flag bearer of the party in order not to lose the 2023 polls.
“Wazirin Adamawa, Atiku Abubakar is the most qualified presidential aspirant within the nation’s political setting. Aspirants like Aminu Tambuwal, Bukola Saraki and Bala Mohammed should be considerate and patriotic enough to pull-up for Atiku in regional interest”, Ladan said.
Ladan noted that all the other five geo-political zones have at one time or the other acceptably enjoyed the presidential slot, except the Northeast which has not had it since attainment of independence about 60 years ago when its illustrious son, Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa was immorally assassinated in a cold blood.
“As far as the Northern region is concerned, Northwest has gotten the presidential slot, same with Northcentral, but Northeast has not taken the slot in over 60 years of our independence, and for the Nigerian political class to be Just and equitable, the 2023 shift should be assigned to the Northeast,” Ladan posited.
He added, “I think it is arguably right for the presidential slot under whichever political party be reasonably zoned to the Northeast to steer the ship of the Nigerian state. Afterall, Bauchi is the cradle of Nigerian politics”.
