2023 Presidency: Abdulsalami Abubakar (Retd) anoints Prince Adebayo, says he is youthful and capable

Former Head of State Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (Retd) has endorsed famous lawyer Prince Adewole Adebayo’s presidential bid.

According to Abdulsalami, Nigeria is on the right track to greatness again thanks to Adebayo’s ideas, youthfulness, and dynamic ambition.

The former Nigerian leader revealed this on Saturday during a courtesy visit to his Hilltop Villa in Minna, Niger State, by the media magnate.

Former Minister of Youth and Sports Solomon Dalung, ex-lawmaker representing Anambra South, Senator Ugochukwu Uba, and others accompanied Adebayo, a senior member of the National Consultative Front’s (NCF) Steering Committee.

Adebayo’s motto, HopeAgain2023, aims to break the duopoly of power held by the All Progressives Congress and the People’s Democratic Party.

Welcoming the aspirations of the 50-year-old, Abdulsalami expressed delight that he is thinking of moving Nigeria forward.

He maintained, however, that Nigeria does require the younger generation to take over from the older age.

“I am overjoyed that not just you, but other young people are interested in taking over the nation’s leadership,” Abdulsalami added.

“I am pleased that you are considering taking Nigeria ahead, and I feel that with your ideas, youthfulness, and burgeoning ambition, Nigeria is once again on the correct track to greatness.”

“With a population of over 200 million people, Nigeria is unquestionably a great country. I appreciate you finding me fit for this visit once again, and I will do everything I can to help.

Adebayo, for one, said he came to Minna “to seek your blessings and draw into your wisdom and competence in Democratic administration and love for fatherland because you gladly offered us democracy when leaders across Africa were clinging to power.”

“You had the opportunity to hold on to power,” he said, “but your concentration was on leaving an enduring legacy.” The 1999 Constitution, which makes Nigeria a democratic nation today, was signed by you and handed on to us as a country. You are the father of Nigerian democracy.”

“We will build on the legacies of Nigeria’s heroes past,” Adebayo stated, assuring the former Head of State of his skill, devotion, and passion to build on the legacies of Nigeria’s heroes past.

Assuring the former Head of State of his ability, commitment and zeal to build on the legacies of Nigeria’s heroes past, Adebayo said, “we need to have a template for you to show that we are Nigerians first before any other designations”.

Prince Adebayo highlighted five critical factors for achieving that pattern.

One, the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s unity and continuity are more important to us than any other concern. Two, Nigeria is not a country in which citizens should seek to be great individually, but rather a country in which citizens want the country to succeed.

Adebayo stated that he would like to be a common man from a great country rather than a great man from a worthless one.

Third, the past labors of our heroes should not be reduced to a song, but should be continued, because the trip that the heroes began is not yet complete.

He also stated that the globe has gotten more global. As a result of the global advances, Nigeria must go worldwide and compete favorably with international powers such as the United States, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, China, and France.

Finally, he stated that Nigeria should be based on the premise that public service is more honorable, beneficial, and long-lasting than personal wealth acquisition.
