A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State and former governorship aspirant, Al’ameen Sani Muhammad has charged Nigerians in the spirit of Democracy Day to elect only leaders that represent aspirations and symbolism of June 12
In a statement shared with journalists on Sunday, Al’ameen also cautioned Nigerians against misusing the benefits of June 12.
“I want to congratulate Nigerians on this auspicious great day of democracy. I want to remind Nigerians that apart from honouring the sacrifices of Nigerians who fought for the return to democracy, June 12 should also be a platform to demonstrate the commitment of every civilian administration to satisfy the aspirations of the people.
“Nigerians need a democratic leader that represents hope for change and national rebirth, a leader thay will lead them to the Promised Land. The country is in need of a government with a human face that represents the aspirations and symbolism of June 12,” he said.
Lamenting the poor state of affairs in the country, Al’ameen said both leaders and followers are now showing undemocratic habits because of poverty, insecurity, unemployment, corruption, lack of basic infrastructures and many problems and challenges which is slowing down the development of the country.
He said Nigerians must be ready to play their part by getting involved at any level they can by supporting a democratic system that works for all and not for a selected few, and must demand accountability from their elected leaders.
“Our leaders must show commitment to bequeathing a sustainable democratic culture that remains resolute as well as the pursuit of a fair society that remains unshaken,” he added.
Al’ameen further advised Nigerians to use the opportunity that democracy presents for realizing a truly democratic government that approximates the yearnings and aspirations of the people.
