The Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the ‘Universiti Sains Malaysia’ (USM) on research and knowledge sharing.
The MoU, expected to facilitate research activities between the two universities, has a lifespan of one year, at first instance.
However, the agreement can be renewed for another year.
The Vice-Chancellor of FULafia, Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, who signed the MoU on behalf of FULafia, commended the Department of Microbiology of the University for keeping faith with the core values of FULafia, namely, integrity, innovation and excellence.

He said that academic research is what makes universities unique, adding that “our University would continue to collaborate with others in areas of research.”
He commended the legal team of FULafia for ensuring that all legal issues concerning the MoU were adhered to, saying that the Management would ensure that the objectives of the collaborative effort were met.

In her speech, the Head of Department of Microbiology, Prof. Aleruchi Chuku, said that “the aim of the collaboration is to bring about breakthroughs in the field of research and development.”

She said that the agreement would enable FULafia and USM to exchange researchers and research equipment for the benefit of the institutions, make the two universities visible to the international academic community, widen and deepen knowledge.

Aleruchi said: “Presently, we send Mr Uyi Osuyi, from our department, to undergo his bench work in Malaysia,” adding that Mr Osuyi’s work, when completed, would put FULafia on the international map and help it to achieve its dream of becoming the fifth best university in Africa.
