A person from Bedfordshire has died as a result of Lassa fever, bringing the total number of verified cases in England to three, according to health officials.

According to the UK Health Security Agency, all of the cases are from the same family in the east of England and are linked to recent travel to west Africa (UKHSA).
Earlier this week, two cases were announced. The third person, who has now died, was first put under “examination” for a viral infection. On Friday, UKHSA announced their diagnosis and death.
Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was caring for the patient. “We confirm the sad death of a patient at our trust who had confirmed Lassa fever,” a spokeswoman stated.
