By Charly Agwam - Bauchi  The Students Union Government (SUG)  President of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) has said that the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) will shut down the country if the strike embarked on by Academic Staff Union of universities (ASUU) continues. The ATBU SUG president, Comrade Usman Abubakar was speaking at a press conference organized by NorthEast zone of NANS in Bauchi on Friday. Court orders ASUU to resume work after 7 weeks strike

By Charly Agwam The national industrial court of Nigeria (NICN) has ordered the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call off its ongoing nationwide strike. ASUU has been on strike since February 14 to press home the demand for improved funding for universities, a review of salaries for lecturers, among other issues. Several meetings between the union and the federal government have ended in a deadlock. Consequently, the federal government went to court to challenge the strike. The government through its counsel, James Igwe prayed the court for an interlocutory injunction restraining the union from taking further steps as regards the strike, pending the determination of the substantive suit. The charge was given by the National Publicity Secretary of Academic Staff of Polytechnics (ASUP), Comrade Abdullahi Yalwa at the swearing in ceremony of the new officials held at ASUP Secretariat, ATAP, Bauchi on Thursday.
