Speakers of Bauchi and Kogi State Houses of Assembly, Hon. Abubakar Suleiman and Hon. Mathew Kolawole along with North-East and North-Central legislators have thrown their weight behind Mai Bala Buni led administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The legislators made the call at an extraordinary meeting of North-East lawmakers in Bauchi on Thursday where they also endorsed Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi to be the next president in 2023.
The APC lawmakers from Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba, Borno, Kogi and Kwara states passed a vote of confidence on the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of APC where majority voted in his favour.
In the communique released to journalists after the meeting, the Bauchi Speaker posited that only the North Central is yet to produce either the president or the vice, saying that the North should not allow the South to produce the next leader.
His words: “Since 1999, former President Obasanjo did 8 years and former President Goodluck Jonathan did six year’s –that is 14 years. Former President Yar’adua did 2 years and if President Muhammadu Buhari finishes his tenure it will be 10 years. North needs another four years to balance up.”
On Yahaya Bellos endorsement, the Kogi State speaker said “He came to power when he was 40 years old. He is now 47, by the time he will take over as the president, he would be 48 years. This is the kind of leader that we need. He has done well in terms of security, I can’t say he has done 100 percent but he’s done 80 percent.
“Before, Kogi, particularly Okenne, used to be a den of criminals, he has levelled down the houses of those who were sponsoring criminality in that area. Nigeria needs a leader like Bello who can move to anywhere if there is a problem. He has been traveling mostly by road. If was to come to Bauchi today, he would come by road. I keep wondering when he is getting his energy from.”
